Fireproofing - DIV 07 81 00

The art of Spray-Applied Fireproofing is to protect the structural steel (i.e. beams, bar joists, columns, and decks) of a building. The materials, cementitious or intumescent, are installed per UL systems designed specific for each scenario.

Fireproofing - DIV 07 81 00

Firestopping is what controls and prevents the spread of fire and smoke in the case of an emergency situation. This is performed by sealing penetrant openings, horizontal and vertical joints. UL systems are followed to ensure proper installation and protection of the building.

Services

DIV 07 84 13 - Penetration Firestopping

A fire-rated wall may have MEPF work (i.e. mechanical ductwork, electrical sleeves or conduits, plumbing pipes, fire alarms or sprinklers) that need to be ran through the floor or wall. Penetration firestopping applies fire-resistive materials to the MEP openings to maintain the fire rating of the wall. These materials are installed by following UL systems and guidelines to prevent the spread of fire, smoke or toxic gases through the opening, and achieve the desired fire rating for the floor or wall assembly.

DIV 07 84 46 - Joint Firestopping

The process of sealing any linear gaps or joints between fire-rated floor and wall assemblies. Specific situations include top of wall, bottom of wall, vertical and horizontal joints. This installation includes filling the opening with mineral wool and sealing with a fire-resistive material. Application will prevent fire, smoke or toxic gases from extending into other areas, and achieve the desired fire rating for the floor or wall assembly.

DIV 07 95 13 - Rated Expansion Joints

Fire-rated expansion joints are designed to bridge the gap in a structure, likely caused by a change of material in a floor or wall. Fire-rated expansion joints are specialized assemblies that help safely manage movements, acting as a structure's defense as they absorb thermal expansion, contraction, vibration, and seismic movement. This application helps reduce internal stresses in concrete, steel, and piping systems that cause structural damage.

DIV 07 81 16 - Cementitious Fireproofing

Cementitious fireproofing can be a gypsum-based or portland cement-based product, each called for in different scenarios. A standard density product is used mainly in concealed areas, while a medium/high density product is used in more exposed/high-load areas.

DIV 07 81 23 - Intumescent Fireproofing

Intumescent fireproofing is a paint-like product used to achieve a desired finish. This method of fireproofing is chosen when the structural members are designed to be a visual part of an area. Intumescent can achieve a desired finish from Levels 1 through 5.
